Specimen Requirements

Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.

Diagnostic Utility

SOX11 is a sensitive and specific immunohistochemistry marker for mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), with strong and diffuse nuclear staining in 90+% of cases, including a high percentage of morphologic variants, such as blastoid, pleomorphic, and the so-called "cyclin D1-negative" MCL. It may thus be useful in differentiating blastoid mantle cell lymphoma from CD5-positive diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).
