p63

Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.

p63 is in the p53 gene family. It is found in a variety of epithelial cell types including, myoepithelial cells, squamous, transitional, basal cells of the prostate gland and other epithelium. The absence of p63 can be useful in identifying invasive carcinoma of the breast and prostate. The presence of p63 can support squamous or urothelial differentiation.
