Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.

MyoD1, a members of the MyoD family of myogenic helix-loop-helix transcription factors, plays an essential role in coordinating myogenic differentiation. MyoD1 is a sensitive and specific marker for rhabdomyosarcoma, including alveolar, embryonal and pleomorphic variants. It is most useful, when combined with myogenin and desmin, in differentiating rhabdomyosarcoma from other small blue round cell tumors, including PNET / Ewing’s sarcoma.
