Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.

Masson's Trichrome stain distinguishes between muscle and connective tissue by the differential action of acidic and amphoretic dyes. It is used to assist in differentiating collagen and smooth muscle in tumors and assists in the detection of diseases or changes in connective and muscle tissue.
