Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.

CDX-2 is acaudal type homeobox transcriptional factor that is normally expressed in intestinal epithelium. It is a useful marker for adenocarcinoma of gastrointestinal origin, especially those of colorectal primary. It is expressed in a much lower percentage of adenocarcinoma from the upper GI and pancreaticobiliary origins. CDX-2 may also be expressed by neuroendocrine (carcinoid) tumors of GI origin, ovarian mucinous tumors, and urinary bladder adenocarcinomas.
