Identifies the protein product of the gene first discovered in Burkitt’s lymphoma, overexpressed as a consequence of chromosomal translocation involving chromosome 8. Used to screen diffuse large B cell lymphomas to identify those with high-level expression, corresponding to those tumors with a relatively high likelihood of harboring a c-MYC gene rearrangement by FISH.
