Congratulations to Dr. Richard Whitten who received the Medical Staff Provider Excellence Award for 2018. He was presented with the award by Dr. Francois Cady at the Providence St. Peter Hospital Annual Meeting on Tuesday, September 11.
“Based on his broad and deep diagnostic expertise, his tireless teaching efforts and an overall continuous pursuit of excellence, he is essentially the gold standard of community-based pathologists,” said Dr. Cady at the award presentation. “During his 30 years of service, he has performed diagnostic work on well over 100,000 patients in our community. Rich has worked tirelessly to train and mold the next generation of pathologists and his can-do attitude is contagious.”
Dr. Tracey Harbert added that “the key thing that separates Rich from other well-meaning people is that he actively engages the world around him without barriers, without fear of speaking out, without being protective of his own time, and with the desire to improve quality of living for patients and health care workers in the most straight forward high-yield way possible.”
Dr. Whitten is currently the Medical Director for the Clinical Laboratory of Providence St. Peter Hospital and Providence Centralia Hospital, and is an adjunct clinical assistant professor at the University of Washington, Department of Laboratory Medicine.
