Specimen Requirements
Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.
Diagnostic Utility
CD123 is most useful in the diagnosis of blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasms. It is also positive in classic hairy cell leukemia, most B-ALL and a subset of AMLs. It is also helpful in identifying plasmacytoid dendritic cells in other disorders, such as Kikuchi disease.
