Flow CytometryCellNetix pathologists established one of the first clinical flow cytometry laboratories in the country more than 20 years ago in Seattle. Since that time flow cytometry has proved essential in a variety of disease situations, including the diagnosis and classification of leukemias and lymphomas, evaluation of blood, bone marrow, and tissues for de novo or recurrent hematopoietic diseases, and quantifying lymphoid cells in immune disorders such as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). CellNetix has four pathologists sub-specialty board certified or fellowship-trained in hematopathology or immunopathology who interpret flow cytometric evaluations and correlate these with tissue, blood, and bone marrow studies. The use of flow cytometry is now a routine procedure in many leading universities, medical centers, and private laboratories. Recent advances in technology have led to a growing number of clinical applications. One example of these is immunophenotyping. Immunophenotyping (cell surface marker studies) is the analysis of cell surface antigens, and is performed using monoclonal antibodies. Flow cytometry is capable of distinguishing between various types of leukemias and lymphomas. This may have significant diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic importance. Sub-Specialty Doctors
