Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA)The CellNetix fine needle aspiration clinics are staffed by cytopathologists who perform and evaluate smears immediately (on site). Scheduling is by appointment or walk-in referral from a clinician. Pathologists perform fine needle aspirations on hospitalized patients at the bedside. We also support needle aspirations and biopsies performed by radiology (ultrasound, CT, and interventional guided) or by other clinicians, including pulmonologists during bronchoscopy, gastroenterologists during endoscopic examination, otolaryngologists, and intraoperatively when performed by surgeons. All of these permit the immediate confirmation of specimen adequacy, allow appropriate specimen triage (cultures, flow cytometry, etc.) and permit rendering of preliminary diagnoses. For clinicians who prefer to perform their own FNAs to submit to CellNetix for evaluation, we provide request forms and appropriate supplies. Fine needle aspiration biopsy is a simple and reliable cytologic test which may be used in evaluation of superficial palpable masses in any anatomic site, for example, thyroid, breast, soft tissues, prostate, head and neck, lymph nodes, and other sites.
