Prolactin

Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.

Pituitary hormone expressed in lactotroph and mammosomatotroph cells of the anterior pituitary and used in subclassification of pituitary adenomas. Best used as a part of a panel of markers for pituitary hormones (e.g. thryoid stimulating hormone, follicle stimulating hormone, leutinzing hormone, prolactin, adrenocorticotropin hormone, and growth hormone).
