Specimen Requirements
Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.

Diagnostic Utility
Identifies: Lymphoid enhancer-binding factor 1, a nuclear transcription factor in the WNT/beta-catenin signaling pathway that is normally expressed in T cells and immature pro-B cells, but not in normal mature B cells. LEF-1 is aberrantly expressed in virtually all cases of CLL/SLL, but is almost always negative in mantle cell lymphoma, marginal zone lymphoma, and low-grade follicular lymphoma, and therefore may be helpful in distinguishing CLL/SLL from mantle cell lymphoma.
