Hairy Cell Leukemia (DBA.44)

Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.

Identifies: An uncharacterized antigen present in >97% of cases of hairy cell leukemia. Other tumors positive include a high fraction of cases of splenic lymphomas with villous lymphocytes, and a smaller fraction of high grade B cell lymphomas (e.g., immunoblastic). The antibody shows strong positive staining of about 35% of cases of high-grade B cell lymphomas, e.g. centroblastic and immunoblastic types.
