Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.

Desmoglein-3 is a calcium-binding transmembrane glycoprotein component of desmosome, which is important for the cellular adhesion of squamous epithelium. It is particularly useful in the distinction of lung squamous cell carcinoma (positive) from lung adenocarcinoma (great majority negative), and may be included in the immunohistochemistry panel along with CK5/6, p40, TTF-1 and Napsin A to maximize sensitivity and specificity.
