Specimen Requirements
Formalin-fixed, paraffin embedded tissue block or cell block, or 1 unstained charged slide for each test requested plus 3-4 additional unstained slides cut at 4 microns. Adequate space on each slide for control tissue is required.
Diagnostic Utility
CD79a is a transmembranous protein that is expressed in all stages of B-cell maturation from lymphoblasts to plasma cells. It is a useful marker for B-cell lineage, and can complement anti-CD20 antibody for the diagnosis of low grade B-cell lymphoma after treatment with Rituximab.
