SUMMARY

The LIS Database Administrator is responsible for the reliability, performance, and security of the Laboratory Information System at CellNetix. A strong database background and current technical knowledge are essential criteria. The primary job responsibility is to ensure excellent patient care through maintenance and monitoring of SQL-based report distribution queues. In the current environment there will be a strong dependence on consultants, so excellent vendor and client relationship management skills are also required. As part of a small IT team, willingness to provide backup assistance on general IT tasks will be essential.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Proactively administer database.
  • Plan, implement, and administer interface.
  • Maximize efficiency of laboratory operations and processes through continual streamlining of LIS processes.
  • Troubleshoot LIS support issues and escalate to vendor support.
  • Manage LIS vendors.
  • Liaise with LIS data analyst to ensure data integrity.
  • Liaise with consultant/contract report writers.
  • Design (and assist with creation of) application and management reports.
  • Thoroughly document all procedures and processes, and maintain of this documentation.
  • Develop and monitor of quality assurance monitors for the LIS product (response time, error logs, downtime tracking, etc.).
  • Maintain the LIS portion of the IT Disaster Recovery Plan.

KEY SKILLS

  • High level of MSSQL technical ability, especially in reporting and database administration. Ability to write complex stored procedures.
  • Knowledge of HL7 interface language.
  • Current knowledge of medical industry trends and standards.
  • Client/vendor management skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years LIS administration in a pathology environment.
  • Experience with IMPAC PowerPath LIS is ideal.
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Sciences, Microsoft Certified Database Administrator is ideal.
